They are not losing them for nothing. They are getting the remaining games of the season, any playoffs and then the cap space.
None of those guys get traded for nice stuff without retention or bad contracts coming back. So not having that is valuable in and of itself.

Retention is only for the rest of the year and I’d hope the bad contracts are similar.
