We have to remember - Markstrom has red flags around him as well. Turcotte could be an attempt at a home run.
Look at Byfield and Lafreniere this season. It takes time for healthy players to click - and Turcotte looks like he's had some injury problems along the way. If those are behind him? There's upside there.

At 3 million bucks there would be 29 starting goalies this year making more than Markstrom. Unless we think we are trading one of the absolute worst starting goalies in hockey there is no reason to retain on Markstrom. Plus the 3 million you are retaining on him if allocated elsewhere probably allows you to pick up two years of Chiarot for a 1st and a 2nd, which would be a much better use of that money.
