So the question is if you’re an educated, skilled, ambitious professional who can make 150k+ in the private sector, what’s the upside of going into politics? You’ll make less money. You’ll be hated by half the people you represent. You’ll have to move halfway across the country away from your family. You’ll have no privacy. And there’s a good chance you’ll be turfed from your job come election time - not because of how well you did your job, but because your party or party leader dropped in popularity.
The only upside I can think of is the pension.
