Yeah, I don't think a long-term deal to Hanifin hurts the team. By all means, move Lindholm, Zadorov and Tanev, but clearing out THREE of the team's top-five defensemen seems nuts to me. An eight-year deal for Hanifin carries him to 35-years old, and provides for a very stable defence core with Andersson and Weegar to build around. He skates so well and is smart enough of a player that he should continue to be a very reliable top-four defenseman for the duration of that deal.
Moving three of "big four" UFAs still gives this team a tonne of assets to build with, and opens up lots of roster room for young players. I think that if Conroy is going to extend anyone, it should be Hanifin.
