If it's such a small thing, maybe the federal government could stop fixating on it too.

This is the point -- it's a small thing that is not moving the needle, and more importantly it's too broad such that it completely ensnares things that
are attempting to fix the problem that a broad ban purports to. Compostable shopping bags, compostable 'plastic' straws, both things work well for their intended purpose and are compostable which is better for the environment.
Don't tell me 'reusable' bags are the better option, you know what happens with those? You forget your bag or make an impromptu stop at another store, buy another one, then you have two or three or seven of the goddamn things in your house and then you decide "I don't need all these f-cking bags" and throw six of them out.

They work great as basic grocery bags, I don't know what you're expecting out of a grocery bag if you think otherwise. In terms of how good they are as compost bags, I never had issues using them in that way when I lived in a house with a compost bin. Us high-rise dwellers don't get compost options.
