The Pittsburgh Penguins are pleased to announce their first trade of the offseason. The Pens have shipped out veteran dman Adam Foote to the Winnipeg Jets for Forward Jochen Hecht. GM Goffie had this to say about the deal:

This trade came down to a finincial need moreso then a need for change. Adam was HUGE for us last season and was one of the reasons why we were so successful. It hurts having to lose his leadership and defensive play, but looking at our defense corps and salary structure it was a deal that made sense to us. We are looking at starting the season with a cap of about 75mill after sponsorhips and playoff money come into factor and we needed to trim some payroll to get there. We feel that Jochen is a solid fit with this team and he is a player that can play in any roll asked of him, we look forward to having him on board.
