I have to think that for future CPUs it's basically going to be impossible to find mobos to support DDR4 so if you're building or upgrading now and go the DDR4 route, I wouldn't buy a new mobo to do it because whatever you put on it is likely going to be the last thing it sees. In other words, if you run DDR4 now, any future upgrade is going to require a new mobo AND new ram.
In some cases that's fine of course, if you know your next build is probably going to be ground-up or near enough and you want to squeeze the life out of what you have now.
