Closer to the trade deadline, more teams will be confident in their playoff position and will be ready to trade first and second round picks by then. And it helps the flames that their available players are the ones that are the most coveted for teams wanting to go deep into the playoffs… defencemen and a center.

Closer to the deadline more teams are confident they are out of the playoffs too which reduces the number of teams you can trade with. Given that the Flames want to move 4-5 assets, I would prefer Conroy get at least one of the trades done in the next month before Christmas.
