In this season and last Garland has 51 points in his last 96 games. (0.53 PPG)
Monahan had 51 points in his last 115 games as a Flame (0.44 PPG)
Garland doesn't have the injury concerns but nobody seems to be lining up to take that contract.

It's hard to gauge if no one wants it or if no one can take it until they get cap relief. The teams that would want a player like that for right now, can't fit it. The teams that will take him but want an incentive want an incentive that the Canucks aren't willing to give.
Garland's production is coming with minimal power play time and from the third and fourth line. If you watch any Canucks games or pull up the analytics, you'll see that the Canucks third line is Garland and two coat tails as far as offensive zone pressure. He's not a problem. He's a victim of there only being six chairs for seven players and he's on the outside looking in due to chemistry.
I don't think the Canucks want to trade Garland anymore. I think if they could find another way to do this, they would. I think they know they can't justify being steadfast in the "No sweetener no retention" rhetoric with Beauvillier and they just really don't want to do that if they can avoid it. They see a path where there's a hockey trade for Garland and they're willing to wait for it.
Well were, before Soucey got hurt. That definitely changes the math.
