I wouldn't say that I'm pessimistic, just somewhat cautious on the timeline. I remember being super interested in things like the UofC competing in a solar race when I was about 10-12 years old, the Ballard fuel cells at about the same age and honestly, 30 years later we're seemingly in the same position with these technologies. I realise that behind the scenes we're not in the same position...but globally we've put huge amounts of money into these areas and the return on that is pretty paltry over that timeframe?
Fuel cells are still a niche product, but you haven't seen a return on investment in solar?

Solar is now responsible for almost 5% of global electricity produced. You might think that's not much, but it's doubling every 2 years and there's no signs of it slowing. The IEA, who has wildly underestimated renewable growth in every single forecast it has ever published, has solar having a higher global capacity than coal by 2027 and natural gas by 2026. That's not production, but it's only a matter of time it's there too.
