I only ask because he may want to consider terminating his contract (mutually) with the Flames. Yes he walks away from $70M, but he already has millions and could likely recoup some of this for the remainder of his career elsewhere (lets assume $20M).
His happiness and sanity is worth something!

I've thought about this too. What if he (I know, not going to happen) asked to have his contract terminated so he could move on as a UFA.
I imagine he'd sign for a year (or the remainder of this one) at a bargain price to get his game back in order elsewhere. Pick a good spot, find what he'd figure is the right fit and then see if he could cash in this summer, albeit at a much lower rate and probably less term. Basically he'd sacrifice millions to be happier but he already has (or will already have) close to $10M for this year. He's set for life.
