They also thought they would have had Kylington so that adds another 1.8 million or so, so they would have been about 3 million over the cap.
Well, first problem is he asked to be traded.

But, if he had wanted to stay, Hanifin asked to be traded but is mysteriously still here.

The general state of the team baffles me more and more.

New GM. Hires coach who was part of the previous regime that had lost the players and had several not wanting to stay. There was an up-and-coming coach with our AHL team who was highly coveted around the league. Armchair me is thinking we really need to go outside the current group and bring in someone fresh. Brunette seems like the obvious choice but don’t really want to lose Mitch Love… meh we’ll just keep mediocre coach with ties to the former issues.

5 UFAs. GM “not going to make the same mistakes”. Well, as summer progresses, it’s harder and harder to make a move. We enter the season with a rookie coach, massive contract distractions, and at least one player who has asked to be traded. What could go wrong?

Hanifin wants to be traded. We continue to try to extend. Season isn’t going well and all talks are halted. Lindholm similar minus trade request. Report says Tanev was insulted by the offer made to him. So what would any of them care about the Calgary Flames? They’re out the door in their minds.

Zadorov plays well, is accountable and tries to get teammates going.. Tells the team, I like this city and I want to extend. “Nah, we aren’t interested “

Backlund did re-sign on a 2 year deal. On what premise? That we are trying hard to re-sign x, y, and z.

So your no 2,3,4 D and 1, maybe 2 of your top centers are how invested in the team?

Not sure the system matters when a quarter of the team has checked out.
