It'll never happen, but I feel like both players and teams should be able to opt out of a contract during its first year. Maybe only on extended contracts though, since both player and team should have some level of familiarity if they're extending.
So if a player flakes during the first year of their extension, the team can elect to rescind the remaining term on the contract, effectively making them a UFA at the end of the season.
Same with the player's side. If the team starts changing things too much during the player's first year... They're sucking too much, or new coach hates them or whatever... Player can opt out and hit the market.
Keeping in mind any movement clauses would invalidate and allow the team to maximize asset return
