Treliving had to trade Monahan WITH a first to create cap room, and Monahan was on an expiring contract too. I would be absolutely livid if it was only a 1st coming back for Zadorov. Klingberg is a healthy scratch. A first is equal payment for clearing up that mistake for Toronto, and doesn't do anything to compensate the Flames for Zadorov.
Yes, Monahan's deal was over a million more for the season, but the difference is the same since this season, cap space is at an all-time shortage. So no, the Toronto deal is putrid in my opinion. You are giving up Zadorov for free in that one.
