The Kadri signing and Monahan trade was just a continuation of his brutal free agent signings.

Yeah he talked about that when the was struggling he couldn't make a trade it was during covid it was difficult.
They talked about a shake up and the difficulty it was to make a deal, so Edwards brought in Sutter.
His value was pretty low, trading him would have been at an all time low value and you just don't do that so they banked on him having some sort of bounce back during a contract season.
It was debatable at that point and still is if he is a franchise player due to his inconsistent performance.
