I doubt it. They said that if the Flames offered anything even within the ballpark, he would have signed it. $8.5 million is easily in the ballpark, or at least an offer that would have been a respectable point to negotiate from. Guy said that Johnny felt embarrassed by the offer.
If any bullet was dodged, it's that Treliving turned down his contract extension as well.
