One thing to keep in mind is that Canadian politics are extremely tepid compared to anywhere else in the world. All across Europe you have far right parties saying things that would be totally unheard of in North America. Canada has 5 parties with seats in Parliament (and 3 independents). Israel, a country 1/4th the size, has 20 parties, and they run a gambit of extremes on both right and left.
