I would not say it's impossible. I said from the start he won't spend that 8 years in Columbus.
Him and the agent wanted Philly and the agent miscalculated the steps to get Philly to bite in the year or so before JG became a UFA, so JG then took family considerations into account, with his wife having a child at the same critical time as his career decision.
I've heard enough from others far more knowledgeable about the situation than most, that he valued having a legacy with one team and that was his main driver for being here. If he came back sooner than later I think that stays intact. He liked the city, the organization treated him well, all that.
I really think his agent didn't help by telling him everything was going to work out, because if not Philly NJ would be an option...until it wasn't, and by that time his wife had different expectations, thanks to the assurances of the agent, of where they were going to live and raise the child for the first few years, and that clashed with JGs own intentions when the market for him collapsed, which is why the scrambling at the last minute and even thinking about changing mind the next day.
If you could do it today? One for one or even a small add on our part? 100% Columbus' plan, such as it was, got blown out of the water and thus it will take at least a year or two longer to get where they planned to be with Babcock.
Likely? Probably not. But IMO it would be great. He will be moved by Columbus in the next 2 years IMO.and Calgary would be on the list of potential destinations.
