I think a lot changed between the two. Chris using, Adriana becoming a FBI leak, The Almost affair with Ade (which if not for Tony B would have been it anyway), Cleaver, Julianna... and thats just the things he knows about.
Chris was incredibly dangerous to Tony... and an opportunity came for him to quietly knock him out, and he did it. Tony has always been pragmatic. I'm not loving the fear and loathing in Las Vegas stuff... but it was a very good episode.
