If the goal of ownership is to win the Stanley cup (which it isn’t), then the first step is buy into your point.
The flames can only contend once they can offload kadri and huberdeau, which will be the last couple years of they’re deals.
The plan should be:
1. No more long term contracts.
2. Focus trades incoming 4 years to acquire draft picks.
3. As players come to end of term, trade at TDL.
4. Fill roster with free agents with something to prove. Give them 1st and 2nd line minutes to maximize their next deal and get some good TDL assets.
5. Start locking in top players to 8 year contacts as RFA’s starting in 2025/26
6. Accept the flames will suck.
7. Oh yeah, spend under the cap and take on reclamation projects for assets.
But ownership won’t do this. They want the dome full to maximize revenues.
