The producers have been very clear that they want the show to end on their terms (rather than being cancelled) and secondly, given the story line, that they absolutely MUST end it rather than let it meander off into infinity.
I think Ron Moore himself has said this story is well past the half way mark.
It was both Olmos and Sackoff saying this was likely the last season. . . . . . but it wouldn't be unusual for this show to lob little mind game grenades like this out into the ether to stir up the fans.
I think Olmos and McDonnell have five year contracts.
Personally, aside from a couple of the stand-alone episodes, I liked the third season . . . . . . reviewing it again over the last few weeks has been quite fun.
But I think this would probably be a good season to end it . . . . . and then it would be easy to follow up with a few subsequent movies.
Time to find Earth.
