More likely is trying to get a player/players that can unlock Huby and/or a new coach. I doubt Huska goes any sooner that a full season into his tenure, so it's unlikely that will happen.
Conroy has gotta build around Huby - we are married to him. So what does that mean? Duclair? Other players like him?
Can you do that by shipping out the UFAs? Our UFAs should be most appealing to a contender team, but would a contender send a productive winger to Calgary for any of our guys? Does a 3C, 4D, or 6-7D get you a fast play driving right winger? Because on a contender it's hard for me to see how our guys would be anything more than that. Does any good team sacrifice productive players for depth? No, of course not.
Does eating some of the salary make it more appealing to contenders? Sure, but when has this team ever done that? It seems Murray has no problem spending money on contracts, as long as it's to pay people to play here. Can't say that I blame him.
So that leaves draft picks.
I have a feeling that the moves the Flames are about to make are really going to upset a certain portion of the fanbase.

I get what you're saying but if the seasons going to #### and Lindy and Hanifin want out I don't see how they have a choice.
Trading for and then overpaying another UFA who hasn't played here would be committing suicide for this franchise. If we trade lindy/hanifin for an established player with term, it's going to be for a much worse player.
I guess they could take a run at Nylander as a UFA but goodluck.
Or possibly sell Lindy/Hanifin for futures then move those futures for another player like Canucks did. But what player could they possibly get that could help turn this franchise around that was bad even before losing a #1C and top 4D.
They need top end talent. The only possible route to get that in an established player is Nylander and that is a looooooong shot, far from a guarantee it would work and could potentially cause irreparable damage to this franchise.
