Everyone in the NHL plays this style to a certain degree. Obviously there are some very talented players in the game who can matrix the system with their elite skill, poise, skating and etc. But all teams check and all teams make going through the neutral zone difficult. So if you don’t have the talent to break team’s structures and create coverage problems , then you dump it in and you go get it.

The Backlund-Coleman-Mangiapane line are exceptional at this. It’s also the reason why their games don’t drop off in the playoffs whereas conversely, Huberdeau, the Gaudreau-Monahan duo and etc. Their games dropped off dramatically in the playoffs because they try to apply regular season hockey to the playoffs, which doesn’t work because the game changes in the postseason.
