I don't agree with the approach, but I get it. The Flames don't have the prospect pool or young player base to support a quick rebuild. Meanwhile they have some large long term contracts to veteran players.

I think the plan has been to be as competitive as possible while prioritizing the draft. But it isn't working with the make up of the current team. So instead, shuffle some players out and hope you find chemistry.

I am not a fan though. Retooling under pressure was what got us into this mess to begin with (aka Tkachuk trade). Not sure how you trade Hanifin and Lindholm for players that make us better short and long term. We tried with the Toffoli trade and that was during the off season when the Flames weren't in a position of weakness.
