Biggest concern is not committing to do the things that need to be done organizationally. I mean, if I were Conroy I wouldn't have accepted the job without the knowledge of what the plan would be should the year not go well. It was 50/50 back in May/June about whether this year would improve or go worse. Only a bit into the season it may be too early to call it but you have to be ready to pull the trigger on improving organizationally.
I don't think you bring in Huska, Iginla, etc. without a longer term view of this organization. While they all may not be transparent about it I also don't think they are stupid. Same with Mikael Backlund, i'm not sure he re-signs here without an knowledge that it could go worse.
And finally I do believe you can go through a rebuild/retool or whatever successfully with Huberdeau and to a lesser extent Kadri on your payroll to the point where they are less important 4/5 years down the road when you can be competitive again. Is it great to pay them 17 million? No, but frankly that is the Flames' own doing.
