I’m glad he was able to publish his memoir last year and be frank about his struggles. He fought many demons and this book can hopefully be of comfort to those that suffer with addiction. Even people we idolize as rich and famous can stumble and get sucked into a dark place. Hopefully his experience can loosen the stigma of addiction and let others know it’s okay to seek help and be vulnerable.
In his book he talks about being very sick at one point and slipping into a coma with a 2% chance of survival, in other words the Hail Mary play. To me it seems like he was given a second chance to share his experience with the world and be a platform to those suffering with similar problems.
Perry said he will always be remembered first and foremost for his time on Friends (and credit to him for being a talented actor) but he would like to be remembered for so much more - such as helping others in need. I truly believe him sharing his struggles will accomplish that dream and hopefully save the life of someone struggling with pain and addiction.
