They could have got the benefit of him being around 2/3 of the season contributing and likely fetched a better return at the trade deadline but it is what it is. We're judging Sharangovich from a sample size that isn't even 10 games into the season.
Additionally, Toffoli forced Conroy's hand. Many people forget this. He either wanted an extension in Calgary, or leave if he wasn't offered one. Wasn't offered one, was insulted, and demanded a trade, of course at a wondrous time when the market wasn't hot, it was ice cold. Just our luck, but Conroy got a decent return for Toffoli all things considered.
