Last year would have been a great year to have a top 5 pick, but so many teams had the same idea. Last year there were 4 teams below .400 point %
Year before 5 below .400 point %
Last time there were more than 2....McDavid's draft year.
Every year between had 0-1.
2015/16 draft year worst team had .421%
2016/17 only 1 team was below .400
2017/18 1 team below .400
2018/19 1 team below .400
2019/20 1 team below .400
Some years you can be 2nd last in the league around .430 point percent. Flames have been within reach of this. Just need to sell more often when things aren't working.
I'm not sure why everyone thinks if we signed these guys that we are stuck in the middle for a decade. See Flames over the last 5 years
2018/19 .652%
2019/20 .563%
2020/21 .491%
2021/22 .677%
2022/23 .567%
Some of these years we were sending out almost the exact same team yet some years we drop over .100%
This team just needs to sell when they should sell, buy less often and play more of their kids. Time will tell on the first 2, but Conroy already has shown he's willing to play the kids.
Also, so many want a rebuild yet the rebuild people are the least patient posters on here. 5 games in and haven't been great. But you could make a case that Coronato hasn't been great, arguably has the worst stats on the team. We need to give this a few more games, some of the vets aren't rolling yet and some of the kids are getting their first crack. Way too early for all this.
