Top Shelf Hockey reported that that Timo Meier has already fallen out of favour in New Jersey and they are concerned that he isn't a fit for the team. He is just entering the 1st year of his 8 year extension with an $8.8 million cap hit.
He has only played like 30 regular season games for them, plus 11 playoff games, so it seems kind of early for them to give up on him, but it is noteworthy that he has no trade protection this season. After this season, he gets a full NMC for a few years, followed by a modified NMC in the latter part of the contract.
