Star Wars fans have really sucked the life out of any discussion about these series. So much hyperbole like it's the worst thing that's ever been created.
As someone that didn't have any emotional connection or attachment to any of these characters beforehand, who had essentially just this show (outside of a couple of animated episodes) to convince me to like them and want to follow their respective stories, I'll tell you that it failed miserably.

The animated shows must have shouldered a lot of the heavy lifting here and shown these characters in a much better light, because none of them were very interesting, likable or fun. Maybe Ezra, but again I had no idea what he was about, just that he wanted to do kung foo with the force and was pretty well aloof about the stakes of everything going on.

Maybe it's an enjoyable tack on to several other seasons of another show, but as a self-contained story that should be giving depth to its characters, and establishing motivations so that things make sense, this was like a hut built over a river. And not in the fun, George Lucas way.
