But calling it a huge win for the organization is a bit much.
A winning organization isn't celebrating retaining a serviceable top 4 for probably too much money.
No one's breaking down the door to get him because he's frankly been unspectacular in every way, and this at a time when he's supposedly fighting for a next contract.
He probably realized he's getting his best number by just re-upping with the Flames and that's all that's happening here.

I know that some are underwhelmed by Hanafin, but signing him would lock up a top 4 defenseman for his prime years. You only have to look north to see that there's not an abundance of top 4 defenseman in this league and I think the Flames are better with Hanfin than trying to fill that hole for years with a post-apex veteran or rookie defenseman. As of now the offensive players and goaltenders aren't good enough and the last thing this team needs is to get considerably worse on defense as well.
