I mean it's pretty simple and it goes back to the years with Iginla as well.
To win in this league you need a truly elite #1 center and defenceman and we have neither.
It's not simple as trading everyone away and rebuilding because without those two key pieces you can rebuild all you want you win do crap all.
Johnny and Tkachuk stay we have the same issue if 1 stays 1 leaves same issue.
We have had some bad luck and we don't bottom out in years like last year when even if it miss Bedard you have 2 guys that could change your franchise.
Unless you get a gift like Tampa with Point or Detroit with Datsyuk.
The team focused on free agency and trades and the draft was just whatever when we had Iginla and that set us back big time.
Towards the end with Treliving picks started to burn a hole in his pocket like cap space did so that set us back.
At least this time around we have decent prospects in our system but without that key element this is what you get.
You don't win with wingers and complimentary centers. You need a stud up the middle.
