Well, the IDF and Netanyahu‘s spokesperson both made the claim, so it wasn’t just a reporter getting bad info. The story originated with the Israeli military and was repeated by Israeli and IDF officials. We don’t have to pretend that it came from some mysterious source.
In a vaguely similar misconnection of information (and to see how easily stories morph), there weren’t actually any photos of babies burned in their cribs released. There were photos of burned babies, and photos of bloody beds. Among several other horrible things. I very much doubt based on the photos of the babies that there would have been any crib left to identify.
