You would think it’s the latter, as it’s where the puck needs to end up, but if you’re putting in golf you’re supposed to pick a spot not far infront of the ball to help stay on line, and beating the goalie is what matters to make it a successful shot.
Curious what the takes are here, or what strategy the most successful shooters employ.

I’m willing to bet that in the vast majority of situations shooters are just letting the shot go towards the net and hoping for the best. It’s not like the skills comp where they can aim.
