A neat band for sure and one of Canada's best, but people gush more than is warranted without a doubt. Fully Completely and Day for Night are siiick and 38 Years is such a great song.
I'd say one third of their songs are
outstanding and the rest are generic CanCon filler. They have a back-up singer with a god-awful voice and a totally unwatchable lead man that makes you cringe.
They may be our best band, though, really. Especially because most people like them across all genres. Country guys, rock guys, alternative guys, young and old...you can put on some of their bangers and all people will enjoy. That's gotta be pretty tough to pull off.
Is Celion Dion bigger? Michael Bublé? Justin Beiber? I mean, there are "bigger" acts out there, but none of those people really resonate outside of their genre. Hip do transcend all genres, so there's that.
The reverence for them is a bit much, though, IMO.
