That's excellent news. Israel is no doubt facing and responding to mounting pressure to address humanitarian concerns before they start any kind of ground offensive - which is good for all concerned (almost miraculous given how things looked several days ago and the political leanings of the government of the day).



I have no doubt that some brutal days are still going to come, but there are ways to minimize the harms to ordinary Gazans - and to Israelis and Jewish people internationally, who will bear the reputational brunt of Israel's military response. The delay also affords the opportunity for a longer term plan to emerge - something I'm not sure the Israeli government had actually turned its mind to in its initial response to the Hamas attack (which was understandable given the brutality of it and the impact on the Israeli collective psyche).



It seems to me that whatever the long term plan ultimately proves to be, it will need the direct involvement of bodies other than Israel and the Palestinians in Gaza. There simply can't be enough trust there for another solution to governance, at least not that I can see.
