To #### on gambling but not the alcohol commercials is hilariously hypocritical. The only difference is that beer/drinking is a huge part of hockey culture and much more normalized in society.
There were almost 4000 alcohol related deaths in Canada last year yet I haven't heard a peep about anyone complaining about Original 16 being a Flames official sponsor or trying to lobby governemnt to remove alcohol advertising.
It’s more hypocritical that gambling/alcohol adds are okay, but cigarette/weed ads aren’t.

But moreover, the gambling has infected the broadcasts. Real time odds, analysts giving you their prop picks, apps designed to be addictive (while lying to your face saying “this is not a gambling site”.)

The panel doesn’t crack a cold one or shotgun beers every intermission.

I don’t gamble because the one time I did, I got hit with a rush of dopamine so intense I was shaking on the floor of the casino.

I’ve never experienced that with any alcohol.

I’ve also never been unable to make my mortgage payment because of weed.

Your point isn’t invalid, don’t get me wrong - it’s just… alcohol ads are obnoxious, gambling ads are pernicious.

Plus, we’ve also had 30 years of accompanying “don’t drink amd drive” PSAs and other such material that is also included in the broadcast.

When we see an equitable number of gambling addiction counselling ads, at least to the level of MADD ads, would go a long way.

But at the moment, there’s no pushback or counterpoint. It’s just “yolo let it ride hit that next bet button on the best sports book ever, bitch!!!”

Like, #### off outta here - there’s kids watching. At least wait until after the first period.
