When the Penguins top players ramped up their play in the third the Flames were lacking a game breaking presence that could help them keep up. They really lack a player that can influence a game.
The biggest problem I saw, and I think it showed on almost every goal against, was that they were making mistakes and turning pucks over within 2-3 feet of the blue lines. Turn over at the penguins blue line on a line change and goal.
Bad pass from Hanifin that is kept in at the blue line and goal.
Crossing the top of their zone with the puck and not able to get it that last foot over the blue line, it stays in the zone and goal.
The flames just never looked to be strong enough or determined enough to win the battles at the blue line.
At one point the Penguins only had 12 shots but it seemed that Markstrom as having to keep the Flames in the game. This new zone system looks like it is giving up way more high danger chances than it should. Far too many of the opposition players are left wide open for scoring chances.
