For several hundred years it was part of the Ottoman Empire, then the British empire, then finally, along with numerous other nations, the UN partitioned the land, as part of decolonization.
I am guessing Egypt would have taken all the land to create a bigger buffer for the Suez Canal, or it would be split with Lebanon. I'd imagine Syria or Jordan wanted access to the Mediterranean. There for sure would have been blood spilled. While Jewish control was very much undesired by the Muslim world, the argument at the time seemed focused on Muslim control (since Ottoman Empire), and unless there are better sources, the thought of a Palestinian nation wasn't really the movement.
