Since May of 2022, I think the Flames have an absolutely terrible read on their goaltenders.
Vladar and Markstrom just haven’t been good. The Flames are also in a terrible spot contract wise with them where yeah, they have to publicly back them and support them on the ice because they just don’t have any other option.
…except they kinda do, and they should be more proactive in exploring it.
Wolf’s AHL season last year has earned him the right to play at the NHL level. I’d confidently argue that over the last 12 months, Wolf’s play has done more to earn NHL starts than either Markstrom or Vladar. But, contract status is denying him that opportunity - and that is poor management.
