The problem here too is that it leaves little margin for error since he's not in great shape.
It's easy to forget now but Guerrero started the season on fire, but once he got hurt it seems like whatever happened with that injury really was tough, and he never really found his swing or timing again after that.
Part of being in better shape is it allows you to overcome injuries and things like that with less of an impact. For him he couldn't overcome it.
