Which means it'll happen if they come to power.
I also get a kick out of blaming Newfoundland's high prices on the carbon tax. Newfoundland has some of the lowest fuel taxes in the country while having higher prices than all of their neighbors. And they regulate their gas prices, which I would imagine discourages price competition between stations, ultimately increasing prices. But I guess it's easier to blame a $0.14/L tax for almost $2 gas prices.
It's also interesting how the Provincial government's temporary gas tax reduction there basically got swallowed up by energy companies. Right before they removed the tax in June 2022, they were paying about $2.25/L while Nova Scotia was paying $2.17 and Quebec was paying $2.22/L. Then Newfoundland cut 7 cents of taxes, so you'd expect their prices to come in line with Nova Scotia and under Quebec. Instead, they're currently paying $1.85/L while Nova Scotia and Quebec are paying $1.74 and $1.70 respectively. So despite cutting their gas taxes in half, they've gone from paying 2-3% more than Nova Scotia and Quebec to paying 7-8% more now.
