Again as I have said a big factor is your training and ability with the protection you choose. I carry a rifle or shotgun and have bear spray on my bino harness. If I run into a predatory bear or feel like my life is in danger it’s the firearm I’ll reach for. If It’s a curious bear and it doesn’t bugger off like most do then it’ll get the spray but most situations neither either needed
Feel free to provide research into the assumptions you are making.

Where I think you may be correct is a person who trains for bear encounters regularly with a firearm and has a learned procedure to follow would have better outcomes with firearms then the random person with a firearm. Whether this would be superior to bear spray is unknown.

But in the general case of the average hunter or backcountry user they should plan on carrying and using bear spray.
