If you're seriously worried about your safety on a back country hiking trip, you should address the most dire threat to your life before moving onto guns for bears. Wear a helmet while you drive out to the mountains.
Or maybe stay home and go to the mall as ResAlien said.
The risk of bear attack is so bloody low, and there are a lot of other ways people get themselves killed in the mountains that are way more frequently occurring.
Please don't ruin my hike by making me look at people with their crying eagle bandanas and "sidearms". Go for a road trip to Montana instead.
