From personal experience with a couple unions when I was younger, there's a huge question of corruption. Not all union members are treated equal. Competence and merit aren't their first order of business. Supporting their members under any circumstances are also not their first order of business. Many unions also play a political give and take with management which questions what's right and where they draw the line in the sand. Which is why all these guys go through so many union reps year after year. Undoubtedly over time unions have been great at workers rights but modern day I just find so many of them hit or miss on what they'll do for their people.
