As much as fans want to see them get it going, this is just basically a rec skate for them and then first 15-20 games of the season are them getting into the groove of things.
This is why most of the teams that win Stanley Cups turn it on towards the end of the season in the 2nd half as they seem to get their stuff together.

Also, players are working on specific things (usually defensive or structural). They are working on timing, trying new set plays, etc.
Not scoring 10 goals doesn't mean 'it's just like last year'. I mean, they already did have a 10 goal game. Was that just like last year?
In pre-season, the "NHL team" rarely dominates the "AHL team" because the former has their own agenda, and the latter is fighting for jobs.
Hardly seems like a reason to whine that it's just like last year.
