I think the only way this works is that he finds this evil and frees it, and finds out he was wrong and can't control it and tries to put the genie back in the bottle and Shin kills him. Then he can die a bit of a hero.
But iirc he died after filming so they'll probably recast him with Pauly Shore taking his place.
I tend to think that Thrawn and Shin will be the big bads next year. Thrawn on the physical layer fighting Hera and the weak New Republic, and Shin and Ashoka on the meta physical force level.
