Yeah. Really. Great assessment of the situation here bud.
I correctly pointed out that you used a term that climate change deniers use, for what seems to be the same function that they use it for, which is to make those who raise awareness of a serious problem seem like emotionally-driven doom-&-gloom zealots. While that's not exactly "comparing you to climate change deniers" in the general sense, it's pointing out one similarity to them and, quite frankly, it's justified in this case.
I did recall real instances of me meeting Americans, but I really do appreciate how the great and all-knowing PepsiFree knows my own personal experiences better than I do, and knows that I clearly have some motivation to lie on an internet forum about the details of those meetings. Really is big of you to accuse me of lying about the events of my own life, and this is the low you had to stoop to win an argument on CP. The reality is they were young Americans, in their 20s, who had little more than a passing interest in politics. They remembered hearing about the Ford cocaine scandal in the news and thought it was amusing, but didn't really know much about Canada other than that. Are they the best examples of the American electorate? No, but they don't have to be. They spotlight a crucial problem with the American election system. Only a few thousand people in a few swing states need to be hoodwinked by lies and propaganda to swing the outcome of a presidential election. The people I mentioned are just the type of low-information voters that could put Trump back in the WH. Images of Zelenskyy pumping his fists while the Canadian parliament applauds a Nazi could push some of these folks toward Trump. You think I'm making this up for... some nefarious purpose or something? My only motivation for posting in the off topic forum here is that I'm worried about the direction the world is heading in. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. But I do take exception to your persistent attempts to belittle me and make what I'm talking about seem insignificant, even to the point of today reaching a new low and accusing me of lying.
This whole thing kind of reminds me of the Markstrom thread where I was very concerned that Markstrom's poor play would torpedo the Flames season and, oh look at that, it did. And I called for changes to be made during the season, as the season was lost in my eyes had the status quo been maintained. And look at that, the status quo was maintained and the season was lost. But hey, it's an unwritten rule at CP that Mathgod is not allowed to be right about anything, and if he ever is it's only because broken clocks are right twice a day, and he doesn't have a brain and doesn't know how to assess situations, and he's always wrong and clueless in every situation, and the great and all-knowing fountain of knowledge PepsiFree will always be able to tell you exactly why.
That's right, Mathgod is wrong about everything. There was never any reason to worry about misinformation spreading online, never any reason to worry about the spread of right wing, anger-&-fear driven ideologies. Donald Trump was never the President of the United States, Bolsonaro never President of Brazil, right wing populists aren't gaining support all over the world, Brexit never happened, Putin never installed himself as dicator for life in Russia, and Ovechkin definitely didn't spend his whole life worshipping said dictator. Faith in democracy and democratic institutions in western nations isn't at a historically low point. And most of all, public support for continued military support for Ukraine hasn't been slipping in recent months (even if poll after poll continues to show that it is);
you're better off ignoring that babbling fool Mathgod and his endless fear mongering.
Well, maybe that's the truth of the matter. Or, maybe it's something very different...
Maybe you got it wrong when you said I was worried about the Russian population being hoodwinked (I was actually worried about NATO populations being hoodwinked). And then you got it wrong again when you misrepresented my position, accusing me of saying that NATO countries would change course
directly on Russia's word
. Then you got it wrong a third time when you accused me of lying about people I've met.
So tell me again how it was too early to panic about Markstrom, or how there's absolutely no way Ovechkin could have spoken out against Putin or even removed his instagram photo (hint: Zadorov's parents live in Russia), or how higher property taxes equate to "kicking elderly people out of their homes and spitting on them on the way out".
Maybe, just maybe, you're full of ####. Maybe you're a callous, smug pr### who only cares about looking like a tough guy on an internet forum and the smartest guy in the room, and will say anything you can to belittle people who disagree with you.
