Sorry, couldn't resist replying to this one.
I am all for people having their own opinions. I think, being from Calgary, it is only common sense that MOST people MAY be Flames fans. I personally respect anyone who is loyal to their teams (as opposed to those who just jump on the bandwagon when the going is good).
By the same token, I am loyal to MY team, even though my team isn't the Flames. I started going to Wings games at the age of 4 and have been loyal to them since that time - for better or worse.
I have dated a few guys who were staunch Flames fans and have respected them and their opinions. I would expect the same in return.
I have never run into the problem of "battling" over team loyalties. If anything, it makes the betting more fun.
RESPECT, in my opinion, is integral in any relationship and if you get trashed for supporting your team, then I would say there are bigger problems on the horizon.
I would, however, have a hard time dating someone who wasn't into hockey AT ALL because it IS a big part of my life. In saying that, sometimes different interests add a "spark" too.
Anyway, this is just my opinion ~shrugs~ and it's worked for me over the years.
