Having Vladar to start the season, until we know what Wolf is, and in case Markstrom got hurt, is FAR more valuable than giving him away now, for space and hope.

They may have decided last season that Wolf was ready and spent the summer softly trying to move Vladar, for all we know. You definitely wouldn't want to reveal your cards showing any sign you're wanting to move Vladar ASAP if you're trying to maximize offers for him.
I doubt anyone in the organization believes Wolf could be anything less than a good backup at this point. The hope is that he's an undisputed #1, so you take whatever path is best to get him there.
And for all we know, that cap space is also the difference between moving certain guys they need to move and not being able to.
End of the day, managing Vladar as an asset doesn't happen in a bubble. You can't just decide to prioritize that one asset when there might be more important assets that hinge on that role and that cap space being open.
